The main risks of growing organic crops were identified by the founder of the family farm, Andrei Marchenko. The entrepreneur has been working in the field of organic farming since 2004, successfully growing vegetables for sale.
According to Andriy Marchenka, the main risks of organic farming in Ukraine are: lack of markets, low productivity, which can be increased by proven technologies, pests (only biosecurity can be used).
After 2014, the number of buyers of organic vegetables fell sharply. This is especially true for people of retirement age. Now we have to rely on the retail buyer. They refused to sell their products to wholesalers, because they do not care - organic vegetables or ordinary ones. Today, a large volume of grown products is sold through the site, says the entrepreneur. The words of Andrey Marchenko about the complexity of selling organic products are confirmed by the head of Organic Business School, Elena Deineko. In her opinion, about 70% of manufacturers of this group of goods have difficulty selling it. Association of farmers in cooperatives can change the situation for the better, said E. Deineko.
