Italian startup Vegea introduced a revolutionary solution - fruit skin. The novelty is a more deliberate decision to reduce animal suffering and energy costs for the production of "real skin".
Vegetable skin has been reportedly obtained from various plants, such as pineapples, mushrooms, bananas or even grapes, and has the same characteristics as animal skin. Italian startup Vegea created a new product. This is a new biomaterial, textiles obtained from peel and grape seed.
Italy represents 18% of the world's wine production, so this country could invest in the reuse of materials rejected by the producers in order to increase the production of plant tissue.
The test phase showed good results, because the skin is very resistant, so much so that it can be used in the fashion world for furniture and even for car seats!
The startup would now like to produce 3 billion m² of leather per year, using 7 billion kg. grape market products. This is an excellent example of non-waste production, processing and the possibility of creating new jobs, as well as maintaining production in the country.
