ITV News has numbers showing that tons of food, namely berries, vegetables and fruits, are wasted in the UK. The main reason for this is the shortage of farm workers.
This means that some crops in the UK are not harvested. EU seasonal migrants keep aloof for fear of unconditional brexitis.
Industry accuses the government of not allowing more agricultural workers from outside the European Union.
At a fruit farm in Ledbury, Herefordshire, 87,000 cases of raspberries were lost in just two weeks. This happened because there are not enough 100 pickers, because most of the seasonal agricultural workers come from Eastern Europe.
Concerns over Brexit are one of the main reasons many workers are currently standing aside, but falling pounds and better working conditions in their own countries exacerbate this growing problem.
Earlier it was reported that shortages of workers are felt by farmers around the world. So, to harvest apples in France, gardeners are forced to hire young pensioners who are still able to work.
Thus, farmers receive labor, and pensioners - the opportunity to earn extra money.
