From today in Lviv begins a three-month campaign called "Without Polyethylene." Large retail chains will offer customers alternative packaging instead of the usual plastic bags.
As part of the campaign, large-scale thematic events are planned, including fairs and festivals.
Social networks will distribute thematic audio and video clips. It is planned that the campaign for the rejection of plastic packaging will be held until July 3, the code is celebrated on World Day for the rejection of polyethylene.
A plastic bag is used by a person on average 20-30 minutes, and it harms nature for several hundred years. The launched campaign will help to slowly move away from the use of plastic packaging, explains Andrey Moskalenko, deputy city chairman for development issues in Lviv.
Alternative product packaging costs a lot more than plastic bags, which reduces the profitability of the business.
Irina Kulinich, Director of the LGS Economic Development Department, suggests thinking about cooperation with light industry.
Sewing workshops could sew multiple-use bags from scraps of fabric. And retail chains should encourage customers to use alternative packaging. For example, you can give a small discount or some trinket.
