Farmers from seven counties received certificates for the IHFA All Ireland Annual Awards in Portlauise from Kathleen O'Connor of FBD Insurance, the sponsor of the award. Merit status, recognizing longevity, lifelong productivity and functionality, is awarded to cows registered in the Ihfa book that have achieved at least 3,000 kg of lifelong protein yield.
The gold award is given to cows that have reached 3,000 kg of protein yield registered in the database, while animals with excellent IHFA conformation receive a diamond award.
Diamond awards were presented to Leo Collins from Ardcath, Garristown, Co Dublin for his former cows - Oldrose Ruud Molly EX91 2E and Oldrose Bond Bridie 2 EX92 4E. Between themselves, they gave about 190,000 kg of milk for 8 lactations each.
A herd of Kilkenny cows James Mulhol from Danville received certificates for Danville confirmed Chrissie EX93 4E and Danville LGY Melba VG88, which between themselves gave almost 200,000 kg of milk for 7 and 12 lactations.
The Gold Award for Melba produced 3.177 kg of protein and 3.679 kg of fat in 12 lactations, while Crissy Diamond Award recipient gave 3.027 kg of protein and 3.758 kg of fat in 7 lactations.
Dairy farmers from seven counties were awarded IHFA Gold and Diamond Certificates for the exceptional productivity and longevity of their cows.
Ruud Molly recorded the highest percentage of total solids with 5.47 pcs of fat and 3.49 pcs of protein, which gives 4.929 kg of fat and 3.082 kg of protein. Bridy Bond gave 4.722 kg of fat and 3.274 kg of protein.
Oware Luffan of Adare, Co Limerick, was presented for the Hall of Fame award by Patrick Gaynor and Charles Gallagher of the IHFA. He was nominated by the Limerick Club of Frisian breeders Claire Holstein.
