Winemakers of the Apennine Peninsula are seriously alarmed by the appearance on the world market of a significant competitor from Moldova.
According to Claudio Romano, who is responsible for marketing at the Italian company Romaneuro, this season Italy has experienced some problems with the quality of the grape harvest. As a result, it was necessary to significantly limit the number of deliveries to Spain, the UK, Poland and the Netherlands.
The company in which Claudio works is positioning itself as a leader in the cultivation and export of grape raw materials to European trading floors.

Fogs influenced the harvest so much that large Italian supermarkets removed grapes from their counters, as they could not guarantee the consumer the high quality of such goods.
“The situation has been very difficult, and suppliers from Moldova are actively using it,” Romano is convinced. “They also export their grapes to European countries.” And customers in the UK, Spain and even here in Italy managed to appreciate its quality and taste. At the same time, prices for Moldovan grapes are much more attractive to buyers than the cost of Italian goods. ”
Considering that Moldovan winegrowers are equipping ever new production fields for growing grapes, the problem of Italian winemakers will become more acute every day.
