Residents of Ukraine consume more and more fresh berries in the cold season, experts of the Info-Shuvar information center share information using data obtained during the monitoring of market prices of wholesale outlets and large retail chains in the country.
Currently, the volume of imports of berries is relatively small, but it is constantly growing. In 2018, the country acquired more than 120 tons of blueberries on the foreign market. And 4 years ago, this berry was almost not imported. In 2018, 170 tons of garden strawberries were purchased, which showed an increase in imports over the past 4 years by 1.5 times. Last year, least of all was spent on the purchase of blackberries and raspberries.
The reason for this was the short shelf life of the berries and their tenderness. Both raspberries and blackberries do not withstand logistics well. In 2018, Ukraine sold 45 tons of these berries in the domestic market. 4 years earlier, the country almost did not buy raspberries.
At the beginning of March this year, in the largest wholesale market of Western Ukraine, ORS “Shuvar” you can see blueberries from Peru, Morocco and Chile at a price of 466-560 UAH / kg, which is € 15.72-18.89 / kg. Garden strawberry originates from Spain and Greece and is sold for 150 UAH / kg or € 5.06 / kg. Raspberries were purchased from Spain and Mexico and sold at 640 UAH / kg, which is equal to € 21.59 / kg.
