The company "Fru Tech" has introduced in the state register of plant varieties of Ukraine a new variety of blackberry Loch Tay.
This was explained by the manager of “Fru Tech” Taras Maslovaty. “Blackberry Loch Tay is one of the most popular dessert blackberries in the world. It has good yield, pleasant sweet taste and good transportability.
There were a lot of requests from Ukrainian farmers for this variety, so we tested and registered it. This procedure took several years. There is already an order to register, and with the next update of the variety register, you can see the blackberry Loch Tey there, ”said Taras Maslovaty.
According to him, the variety is zoned for the whole of Ukraine. This is one of the earliest varieties. Like all other blackberry varieties, it requires lowering the trellises and sheltering the shoots for the winter so that the fruit buds do not freeze.
Only repairing blackberry varieties do not hide, but for Ukraine they are not relevant, because in our conditions farmers receive only 20% of the crop, and the rest goes under freezing. Loch Tay was created at the Scottish Crop Research Institute (SCRI) by crossing the Loch Ness x SCRI 82417D.
It is suitable for growing both in open ground and in film greenhouses, both in conventional and organic production. Shoots do not have thorns, so the plant is easy to form on a trellis.
The blackberry variety Loch Tay is distinguished by high productivity and marketability of products. Berries have an average weight of 4.5-5.0 g., Dense, attractive in appearance, with a sheen. When harvesting in technical maturity and cooling the collected berries to +4 ... + 6 ° C, the products are stored for up to 14 days without loss of quality.
The variety is resistant to peronosporosis, not too picky about soil fertility.
