The federal government of Canada has decided to promote Canadian wheat on the world market.
During a visit to the Canada International Grain Institute (Cigi) in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Marie-Claude Bebo, Minister of Agriculture of Canada, announced that the Institute would receive $ 6.2 million in federal funding over three years through the Canadian Agricultural Partnership Program.
Funding will allow the Canadian International Grain Institute to promote information on the quality of national wheat for international buyers, improve customer knowledge of Canadian wheat and provide information on customer needs. From November to December 2018, representatives of the Canadian wheat sector visited the world market to 17 countries. This year the Institute plans to meet with potential clients from Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America, as well as the Gulf countries. .
In 2017, Canada exported 20.5 million tons of wheat. By 2025, the federal government wants to achieve $ 75 billion worth of annual agricultural exports. According to the Minister, this investment demonstrates the commitment of the Government of Canada to support the grain sector, increase its competitiveness and promote further economic growth for our middle class and long-term prosperity for all Canadians.
